I had to make some changes to my Nancy Drew socks, because I didn't have enough yarn. I guess my gauge was off a bit. I ripped back the first foot toe area and re-knit using Koigu.

Pattern: Nancy Drew Socks
Yarn: Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in Glenwood
and
Koigu KPM Colorway 1110
Needles: Lace Addi Turbo 47"
size: US #1 and US #2

I finally got around to finishing the Charade socks. My co-worker tried to take these from me. He said they're the softest socks he's ever felt.

I can't believe it, I actually won something! I entered a contest over at A Knitter In Queens blog and I won 3rd prize.

This is the beautiful package I received.

This is what was inside

Twisted Flower Sock Pattern by Cookie A
3 skeins of Koigu in a beautiful Sky Blue

I'm so excited, I can't wait to start on this project. This should motivate me to work on Charade.

Shawn
I really hate that I have to come up with titles for my post. Why can't I just post?

I'm currently working on the second foot of my Charade socks. I had to rip back the first foot twice because it was too long even though I was following the pattern instructions. It suggest you knit the foot until it measures 2 inches from desire length. Then you start the toe, but the instructions for the toe is almost 3 inches long. So I fixed it by ripping back the toe until it was 3 inches from my desired length, now it fits perfectly.

I'm still struggling with the Lanett Baby sweater.

Look what I got in the mail today!

I just got back from a visit with my daughter in North Carolina. This was my first trip since she's started school. I use to go every summer to Greensville, NC when I was a teenager, with my sister's in-laws. NC is a beautiful State, I love the mountains. I went to Linville Caverns, which was very exciting.

I didn't knit at all on my visit, even though I bought a few items with me. I still working on my Charade socks, the Lanett Baby sweater and the Chevron scarf. I will post pictures as I get done.

I bought a whole lot of yarn recently and I need to post pictures.
Shawn
I finished my second pair of Monkey Sock last night. I have to tell you, the first pair I used Blue Moon Fiber Arts STR mediumweight, but this time I used Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock yarn in the Devon colorway and I am in love. I plan to buy more of the sock yarn. It was soft and easy to work with. The socks are not too heavy like the STR and I have tried the lightweight and it was just to heavy for me, even for boots. I cast on June 10th and finished June 19th.

Pattern: Cookie A. Monkey
Yarn: Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in Devon
Needles: Clover / US #1 (3.25mm / US #2 to cast on)

Mods/Details:

  • Sl1, K1 Heel flap
  • Picot Edge
  • I knit 5 repeats for the leg and 6 repeats for the foot
  • Thoughts on the yarn: I love this yarn, first because it washable. Second, the weight of it is just right to wear with anything (sneakers, boots or shoes). This now my favorite sock yarn.
I just cast on for Charade by Sandra Park. This is my progress so far.

I really like this pattern. This is my 3rd attempt at knitting socks with this yarn. It's Lorna's Laces and so far all the patterns I've tried with it just didn't do it justice. I think this patterns is perfect for this yarn.

I'm still working on the baby sweater. No new updates on that yet.
Shawn
I have an update. I got several responses to my post on both sites and the majority suggested that I sew up the gap once I've completed the sweater.

Think I'm on a roll with the project. I love the internet!!!
Shawn
I'm having a bit of a problem with the Lanett sweater pattern. I've reached the pouch area and the patterns says "place the next 41 sts onto a st holder and cast on new 41 sts over these sts. Cont in ST st in the round over all sts until work meas 5 in." This has me stumped. How do I cast on 41 new sts without creating some type of opening. If I hold the sts on the holder in the back then there will be hole in the front and if I hold in the front it still creates a hold. Boy am I confused. I posted a thread on Knitty Coffeeshop and Craftster.org. I hope I get some type of response soon.
Shawn
Just wanted to post an update picture of my progress with the Monkey Socks. I love this pattern, even more than the Jaywalkers.

I finally got around to starting a project for my son's Aunt, she is expecting twin boys in August. The shower is this weekend, so I'm going to buy her something from the registry. I hope to have the sweaters, booties and hats done by the time it starts to get cool.

The Sweater

The yarn

I started this on DPNs but I plan to switch to circulars. I need to find my 40" circulars so I can do this the Magic Loop way.

The book with the pattern

This is my first baby item, I'm so excited.

This is all the knitting I've done in the past month. Two pairs of Monkey Socks.

Pattern: Cookie A's Monkey Sock
Yarn: Sock That Rocks medium weight Color: Lemongrass
Started: the end of May 07
Finish: June 8th 2007

I don't think I would knit another pair of socks using the medium weight STR. The socks are too thick to wear with sneakers (which I wear almost 80% of the time). Maybe they'll work with boots.

This is my second Monkey Sock. I've finished one foot and already into the second repeat on the other foot. This pattern knits up very fast.
Shawn
I said I would post more often, but it hasn't quite worked out like I planned. I really don't have an excuse why I don't blog more. I think it's just me. I start something and then have a hard time sticking to it. I love to start new things but hate to see them through to the end. Like the old saying goes "a jack of all trade but a master of none".

I'm still knitting away. I have finally settled down when it come to working on projects. I currently only have two project I'm working on compared to the 5-10 projects I would try to work on at the same time.

I started the Rusted Root. I still in the first section of the pattern (knitting the sleeves). I'm really enjoying this pattern. I think it has to do with the fact that I'm using Addi Turbo, which I have finally master. It's also my first raglan sweater.

I'm still working on the Knitty's Baudelaire sock. For some reason I'm having a hard time finishing this project. I'm not enjoying the pattern, because I think I'm doing something wrong, what, I don't quite know. Also, my bind-off on the first pair was a disaster. I had to rip it out and bind-off about three times, because it was too tight and would not fit on my leg comfortably. I'm currently researching the different bind-offs to find one that is really stretchy.

I purchased a lot knitting books recently. I am addicted to Amazon.com

Shawn
I haven't made an entry in this blog since January. Wow, that's a long time!

I'm back and I promise myself I will make more of an effort to post here, even if no one is reading it. Maybe someday I will get brave and post my blog addy somewhere so someone can know it exist. But for now it's just for my eyes.

Since my last post I've knitted another Jaywalker socks using STR (Sock that rocks) yarn. This yarn is very thick. I like it better than Kiogu especially after I blocked it. I notice once you wash Koigu it starts to get a little fuzzy and that annoys me, sort of. I haven't notice any fuzziness with the STR, so far.

I'm presently knitting Baudelaire from Knitty.com using Koigu. I forgot how long ago I started working on this socks. I am on the second foot. I don't think I would knit this sock again because the left side of the ssk and then pass over gave me a hard time. I've searched the internet for a solution but couldn't find one.

Also, I'm working on the Red Light Special pattern that can be found here . This is my first time working with more than one yarn or stranding as it's called. It's easier than I thought. I am really enjoying this. I want to work on a pair of mittens next, even though summer is fast approaching. Before you know it fall will be back.

Shawn
I'm in the middle of job searching. I've finally had enough of my job, so I'm currently looking for a new position.

I haven't had much time to knit. I'm still working on my scarf and I bought more yarn to make a matching hat. It's finally cold enough to wear the things I've knit. I also have two pairs of socks I'm working on. The Baudelaire from Knitty.com and a simple pair called Madder Ribbed sock from Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage socks. I realise I love knitting sock but I don't like magic loop. The stitch between always look bad no matter what I do, so I'm back to DPs. Another thing I've learnt is I have to cast-on with larger needles because I think I knit the top too tight.

I plan on finishing the Viveka sweater I was working on for my daughter. Where the sleeves join the body is too has no give. I going to rip the bind-off out, knit another inch and a half on the sleeves and then bind off using larger needles. I hope this helps. I like working on this sweater, I can see another sweater in my future.

I hope to post pic soon, I hate to read blog post that don't have pics.
Shawn
Happy New Year!

I'm so glad the holidays are over. I'm broke but happy. I finish knitting the Viveka from Knitty.com for my daughter but the sleeves are too tight at the join, so I took it apart. Hopefully I can find a better bind-off, a lady at the LYS told me to use needle 1 size larger.

I haven't been able to take pictures because it's been cloudy everyday.
Shawn
It's been a long time since I posted an update. Still working on the Viveka sweater for my daughter. I'm currently on the second sleeve. I've been everywhere getting ideas on how to block it because it's curling. I don't have carpet so one option is to pin it to my bed but, how will I sleep with a wet sweater drying on my bed. The other option is to pin it to my cardboard cutting board I use for sewing. I don't use it to sew at least it came in handy for something else.

I recently bought a pattern from Purlsoho and it was a waste of money. The pattern cost me $7.50 and it was something I could have figured out myself. I don't know what I was thinking, it was the yarn. I bought Blue Sky Worsted hand dyes 50% Alpaca/50% Merino. This yarn is lovely, it's so lovely I didn't even take a picture I just started knitting until the hat was done. I will post pics later.

I also bought some yarn from Knitpicks and Elann.
Shawn
Still working on the sweater for my daughter. I'm finally on the front piece, working on the body. I switced to Continential knitting and it's so much faster. I don't know why I haven't done this a long time ago. I don't think I will have it finished for Christmas, so I'm going to buy her an iPod shuffle and send it in a large box. She will be so surprised because, she keeps saying it's so cute but she doesn't need one because she is in the car all the time. It will come in handy when she goes back to school.
Shawn
I'm still working on the sweater for my daughter. I won't call it a Christmas gift because, it took me one whole week to knit the back. I'm going to start knitting Continential because I can knit faster eventhough I'm still new at this form.

I've put all my other knitting to the side for this one. I'm hoping to finish it soon.
Shawn
It seems like I'm only posting on Saturdays but, that's because I'm on Jury Duty. When I get home at nights I feels so tired that I can't even think.

This is a nice picture of my Shedir hat, check it out.

and another pic of my Shedir

This is a hat I made for my son.

I purchased this yarn (Cascade 220) to make my daughter the Viveka sweater pattern I printed from Knitty.com. The colors are very similiar to the hat I made for my son. She saw the hat and liked the color combination.

I haven't been able to post in a while because I'm on Jury Duty. By the time I get home I'm exhausted for the back and forth in the Courtroom. I now understand why people who have served as a Juror try to avoid it at all cost. It is so draining. The good thing about it is I get to do a lot of knitting.

I've finished my neckwarmer but, I haven't had a chance to post pictures. I still need to make a flower pins for it. I also finished the Fetching fingerless gloves, I'll be making more of these. I want to learn to make gloves with half fingers. I'm almost finished with my Shedir hat. I'm at the point of decreasing. I started a new pair of Jaywalkers using Lorna's Laces self striping made for Purlsoho.

I borrow most of the knitting books from the Library and make copies of the patterns I want to make. I do this because my funds are limited and purchasing some of these books can be expensive. I usually purchase them when I can afford it. I just got Wrap Style and will definitely puchase this book. I like all the patterns.
Shawn
These are a few of the items I'm currently working on.

This is the Garn Studio Neckwarmer. I'm using Drops Alapaca, which I don't think I will use again because it sheds. I hate yarn that sheds, I love the fact that the Alapaca is very soft.

This is my Log Cabin Blanket folded. I get bored with this quickly so I try to do at least one color a week.

This is Fetching. I got the pattern from here. I used the same yarn suggested in the pattern in Black. I like making these because it took me 2 hrs. to knit one hand. I will definitely make more of these.

This is a hat pattern I got from here it's called Shedir. This is the most difficult hat I have ever made. I used the same yarn as the pattern suggested (Rowan Calmer in Brown)

This is my Swallowtail Shawl. The pattern is from Interweave Knits Fall 2006 issue. I'm using Jo Sharp Alpaca Silk Georgette. Like the Alapaca it's also very soft but, it doesn't shed.
